The FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center has reported an increase in mystery/secret shopper schemes. Legitimate secret shopper programs exist, but fraudsters are taking advantage of those unaware of schemes involving counterfeit check cashing or identity theft.
Scams: Haitian Scams Abound - FBI Issues Haitian Scam Alert The FBI continues to remind the public to apply a critical eye and do their due diligence before giving contributions to anyone soliciting donations on behalf of Haitian victims. Solicitations can originate from e-mails, websites, door-to-door collections, mailings and telephone calls, and similar methods.
Early termination fees are a hassle to many cell phone owners. Over the past couple of years, cell phone carriers have turned to prorating contract early termination fees. The early termination fees for Verizon recently rose. A new early termination fee calculator helps determine early termination fees from carriers like Verizon, Sprint, and AT&T.

A short sale may not be the answer to your money, income and real estate problems. A short sale is a very difficult and damaging process for both you and the lender. Your lender may not let you do a short sale as a quick fix to your problems. Just because you think you can't afford your mortgage, doesn't mean the lender will let you do a short sale. Try to find an alternative to your money and income problems, other than a short sale.

In a recent press conference, the Mortgage Bankers Association released its annual “State of the Industry” facts and figures. Bad news for the recovery of the economy and the real estate market -- It looks like unemployment and foreclosures will still be on the rise through 2010, preventing any substantial economic improvement. Unemployment and foreclosures are clearly linked, and any improvement in the real estate market and the economy cannot happen without improvement from both.
If you receive a cash inheritance, one of the smartest things you can do is pay off your credit card debt. By paying off your credit card debt you will improve your credit score by having more credit available. Paying off your credit card debt with a cash inheritance will provide the most benefit to your personal finances.
Under the rules for joint tenancy with rights of survivorship, you should be able to receive the property that you already co-own and continue paying on the mortgage if the other co-owner passes away. The due on sale clause in most mortgages should not be triggered if the property passes to your name after the co-owner's death. Joint tenancy with rights of survivorship allows the property to pass directly to you without any problem from the due on sale clause, as long as you keep paying the payments.
