It’s clear that the stock market isn’t reflecting the reality on Main Street, although it might be reflecting the optimism spouting forth from Wall Street and Washington D.C. This week, the stock market ended up slightly, with lighter trading due to the Jewish Rosh Hashana Holidays. But on Main Street, the suffering continues.

Can we recover from the Great Recession without a booming housing market? A new study that looks back over the past 14 recessions, including the Great Depression says no.
